Soldiers of the Great War - Memorial Edition

Soldiers of the Great War - Memorial Edition. Compiled by W.M. Haulsee, F.G. Howe and A.C. Doyle (Alfred Cyril Doyle - NOT Arthur Conan Doyle) 3 Volumes. Soldiers Record Publishing Association, Washington D.C. (1920) vol 1-448 pages, vol 2- 482 pages, vol 3-506 pages. -a compiled list from official records of all the American soldiers who lost their lives fighting in World War I with photographic portraits of as many of the soldiers as the compilers could obtain from various sources. In volume 1, pages 18-59 are devoted to a Parallel Record of War Events Within the Leading Countries Involved During 1914-1918.

All volumes have some heavy wear to the edges of the covers, volume 1, more so. Gilt lettering and decorations on spine and front cover are slightly faded, although volume 1 more so (again), but all are legible. Hard cover bindings appear to be flexible, perhaps a bit shaken. In volume 2, pages 13 - 24 have come loose from the binding and there are 3 pages that have small pieces of pages that were not cut off in publication and have turned brown outside the page block (will be photographed). Volume 1 has a small chip out of the flyleaf and in a different spot out of the half-title page. Page block on volume 1 shows some wear to the edge and the front end page of volume 1 has a fold. There may be a couple of places within these volumes that have minor stains from plant leaves that I found within the books. (I tossed the leaves. They did not stain so badly as to leave indentations, so they may have been dry when they were laid in.) There are 2 goudges on the back cover of volume 2.  I did not find previous owner markings in any of the volumes, although I could have missed. Also, there are minor flaws to some of the pages (corner folds, mostly, some edge chips) Edges of page blocks are tanned. I have tried to cover all the flaws, and may have missed some minor ones. Pardon the stream-of-consciousness description. Not ex-library, not remaindered, not a facsimile reprint. More photos available on request. For sale by Jon Wobber, bookseller since 1978. CE03a
