Ferrotype and How to Make it by Edward M Estabrooke. Gatchel & Hyatt (publishers) 1872. 200 pages plus advertisements. (first edition). With two original sample ferrotype portraits by the author, with printed paper over-mats mounted on front and rear pastedowns. Inside front cover, the ferrotype is on Phenix Plate Company's 'Chocolate Tinted Egg Shell Plate'. Inside back cover, the ferrotype is on John Dean & Company's 'Adamantean Chocolate Tinted Egg Shell Plate.' While the front ferrotype is in nice condition, with a bit of charcoal(?) on the corner of the mat, the back one has some bubbling with some black spots. I believe these two ferrotypes are unique to this book, as others may be in all copies of this edition. Book is from a former professional library. White ink reference numbers on the spine. Check-out envelope, company rubber stamps and labels inside the front cover. Company rubber stamp on the title page. Heavy wear to top of spine down to the top of the page block. More ordinary wear on the rest of the cover edge. I find no other previous owner markings. Except for some wear to the lower corner of the last back page, no tears, folds or creases to pages. Binding is tight with no looseness to pages. Not remaindered and not a facsimile reprint. For sale by Jon Wobber, bookseller since 1978. FD26b
