"Mohammed Ali was free from Oriental prejudices and superstitions, his life is a complete romance. His detruction of the Mameluks a political necessity.
The man who massecred the Mamelukes...who might have overthrown the Sultan but for western intervention, who practically separated Egypt from the Ottoman Empire must always form an attractive theme." from the Quaritch catalogue.
