Adlai Ewing Stevenson II (1900 – 1965) was an American politician and diplomat, noted for his intellectual demeanor, eloquent public speaking, and promotion of liberal causes in the Democratic Party. (He was) Democratic Party's nomination for president in 1952 even though he had not campaigned in the primaries. Stevenson was defeated in a landslide by Republican Dwight D. Eisenhower in the 1952 presidential election. In 1956 he was again the Democratic presidential nominee against Eisenhower, but was defeated in an even bigger landslide. He sought the Democratic presidential nomination for a third time in the election of 1960, but was defeated by Senator John F. Kennedy of Massachusetts. After his election, President Kennedy appointed Stevenson as the United States Ambassador to the United Nations. He served from 1961 to 1965. (Wikipedia)

HArdcover in slipcase. The slipcase is faded o n most sides, with some stain and signs of wear on the spine of the slipcase. The book itself shows litle if any signs of wear or use. There is some discoloration to the bottom of the page tips frpom an unknown source. The gilt lettering on the spine the book is btight and unfaded. PAges are flat with no folds or creases. I see no previous owner markings of any kind. The biniding is tight with no looseness to the pages. This book may have never been fully op0ened, let alone read.
