Catcher In The Rye by J.D. Salinger. Little, Brown and Company. 1951. "FIRST EDITION" stated with no listing of later printings. 5 1/2" x 8" 277 pages Hardcover with dust jacket. DUST JACKET: This may be a later state dust jacket with the Lotte Jacobi attribution on the back panel, but the edge of Salinger's hair close to, but not cropped, by the edge of the dj. There appears to be bumping and wear to top and bottom edges of the dj. Very tiny chips, no larger than about 1/16", on the top of the front panel. There is a light brown stain (foxing?) along the top about 1/8" edge of the front and back laps with about 1/2" diameter smudge of the same character below the edge stain on each flap. There is a rubber stamp "JUL 1 6 1951" on the bottom corner of the back flap (could this be from the publisher giving us the date of the publication?). Otherwise, no large unusual folds or creases. No tears. Is price-clipped. Now protected by a removable mylar dj cover which shows bumping reflected on the dust jacket. BOOK: Gilt lettering on the spine appears to be slightly faded, but still quite legible. Light bumping to the top of the spine. Wear on the tops of the cover has worn through the surface covering. There is a white smudge on the back panel along with 2 circular marks indicating the presence of some cold drinks. Previous owner name and address in thin black felt tip ink inside the front and back covers. Erasure marks onthe first blank page. There are also a few incidental black dots on the first blank page that appear to be a shadow of the name and address opposite. Those same black dots are also on the last blank page. There appears to be some wear on the tips of the pages. I think that about does it. I see no other previous owner markings. No tears, folds or creases to pages. Binding is tight with no looseness to pages. Not ex-library, not remaindered and not a facsimile reprint. For sale by Jon Wobber, bookseller since 1978. KK25a
