First printing? with no listing of later printing. 6" x 8 3/4" 301 pages Hardcover with dust jacket. DUST JACKET: I should say, mostly complete, but with many chips and tears. DJ is torn all the way on the front of dj spine. There is staining to front and back panels and flaps. Not price-clipped with dj price of $3.00. Now protected by a removable mylar dj cover. BOOK: Moderate cover edge wear. Water staining on the top of the page block. Moisture did effect some of the page surfaces, mostly visible on corners of some of the pages with photographs. The end papers do show staining fairly significantly, but other than a slight browning to the last pages, not much beyond the endpapers. No pages have stuck together. There is no paper ripple. Binding is tight with no looseness to pages. Not ex-library, not remaindered and not a facsimile reprint. For sale by Jon Wobber, bookseller since 1978. KG20a
"As a first-hand account of the weird mysteries and horrors of voodoo, Tell My Horse is an invaluable resource and fascinating guide. Based on Zora Neale Hurston’s personal experiences in Haiti and Jamaica, where she participated as an initiate rather than just an observer of voodoo practices during her visits in the 1930s, this travelogue into a dark world paints a vividly authentic picture of ceremonies and customs and superstitions of great cultural interest." - zoranealehurston.com/books/tell-my-horse/
The appendix, pages 279-301, consists of "Songs of Worship to Voodoo Gods' with musical transcriptions.
