Nowhere is that more apparent in ‘Visions of Heaven and Hell’ a compilation of his paintings and drawings from his monstrous collection. His artistic styles range from simple pen-and-ink drawings to near-abstract scribbles to hyper-rendered surrealism to fantastic landscapes bursting with color. The oil paintings are where he really shines, not just accepting color, but embracing it, with a hyperactive style that incorporates impossibly thick layers of oil, sometimes with thin lines scraped out with a steak knife, all using such a broad palette of colors that one's eyes practically go into overload just looking at them. Included are roughly 300 pieces ranging from the youthfully whimsical (a portly man w/a snail for a hat), to the beautifully dark (an arsonist cloaked in flames), to the bleakly humorous (a man resting his bandaged hands around either side of a bladed penis), to the horrifically erotic (a man laps the blood out of his lover's gaping chest wound). -From Carl Lyon: Monsters at Play

The World of Ting Shao Kuang; Japan Broadcast Pub(1995); Signed; TP w/DJ; Folio; VGVG; Not Ex-Library, Not Book Club, Not Print on Demand; Trade Paper-Dark blue formed paper(green on verso w/ matching endpapers), no lettering, very minimal edgewear; DUST JACKET-Multi-colored pictorial w/black lettering, very minimal edgewear, brodart protected; 125ppg- No markings, pages white, flat, smudging on edges.

Ting Shao Kuang, a prominent contemporary Chinese painter in America, has produced works characterized by a combination of traditional Chinese painting techniques and the more expressive Western art forms. Kiki and the Sheep Man, an odd fellow who wears a sheepskin and speaks in a toneless rush, visit the narrator in visions that lead him to two mysteries, one metaphysical (how to survive the unsurvivable) and the other physical (a call girl's murder). In his searchings, he encounters a clairvoyant 13-year-old, her misguided parents and a one-armed poet. All the hallmarks of Murakami's greatness are here: restless and sensitive characters, disturbing shifts into altered reality, silky smooth turns of phrase and a narrative with all the momentum of a roller coaster. Burroughs, originally published in 1959. The book is structured as a series of loosely connected vignettes. Burroughs stated that the chapters are intended to be read in any order.[1] The reader follows the narration of junkie William Lee, who takes on various aliases, from the US to Mexico, eventually to Tangier and the dreamlike Interzone. The vignettes (which Burroughs called "routines") are drawn from Burroughs' own experience in these places, and his addiction to drugs (heroin, morphine, and while in Tangier, majoun (a strong marijuana confection) as well as a German opioid, brand name Eukodol, of which he wrote frequently).

The book was originally published with the title The Naked Lunch in Paris in July 1959 by Olympia Press. Because of US obscenity laws,[5] a complete American edition (by Grove Press) did not follow until 1962. It was titled Naked Lunch and was substantially different from the Olympia Press edition, because it was based on an earlier 1958 manuscript in Allen Ginsberg's possession.[6] The article "the" in the title was never intended by the author, but added by the editors of the Olympia Press 1959 edition. Nonetheless The Naked Lunch remained the title used for the 1968 and 1974 Corgi Books editions, and the novel is often known by the alternative name, especially in the UK where these editions circulated. SIX BOOK BOXED SET limited to just 1,000 copies worldwide with signed color art print. First Edition. This six-book boxed set is the first collection of Robert Crumb sketches to be printed from the original art since the hard-bound, slipcased, seven volume series issued by the German publisher Zweitausendeins between 1981 and 1997. Unlike the Zweitausendeins edition, which included every doodle ever made by the preeminent underground artist, this best-of edition has been personally edited by the notoriously picky artist to include only what he considers his finest work, including hundreds of late period drawings not published in previous sketchbook collections. Robert Crumb requested that the books representing the second half of his career be published first due to fan demand for new Crumb material (Volume 1 covers the period 1982-2011, and Volume 2 covers the period 1964-1981). In the last 20 years Crumb's artistic output has slowed considerably, making new works more rare and highly prized. This collection of over 600 unseen drawings created between 1996 and 2011 makes this a must-have collectible for every Crumb fan. The slipcased set is made with loving attention to detail in a size and format selected by the artist. Each book in the boxed set contains 224 pages, for a total of 1,344 pages of prime Crumb. The set includes a hand-written introduction, and marbleized page edges from a design created by the artist. The catalyst for the rioting was an announced concert by black singer Paul Robeson, who was well known for his strong pro-trade union stance, civil rights activism, communist affiliations, and anti-colonialism. The concert, organized as a benefit for the Civil Rights Congress, was scheduled to take place on August 27 in Lakeland Acres, just north of Peekskill.
Robeson had given three earlier concerts in Peekskill without incident, but in recent years Robeson had been increasingly vocal against the Ku Klux Klan and other forces of white supremacy, both domestically and internationally. Robeson specifically made a transformation from someone who was primarily a singer into a political persona with a vocal support for what were at the time considered "communist" causes, including the decolonization of Africa, anti-Jim Crow legislation, and peace with the USSR.[4] Robeson had also appeared before the House Committee on Un-American Activities to oppose a bill that would require communists to register as foreign agents and, just months before the concerts in 1949, he had appeared at the Soviet-sponsored World Peace Conference in Paris. Referring to the growing tensions between the USA and the USSR, he stated:

We in America do not forget that it was the backs of white workers from Europe and on the backs of millions of Blacks that the wealth of America was built. We denounce the policy of the United States government which is similar to Hitler and Goebbels.... While attending junior high school, she discovered a knife at a SONY shop in Ginza, Tokyo that made a deep impression on her. She felt it emitted an invisible power, one that's hard to describe, a power that was about to change her whole life. She soon enrolled at Tama Art University where she studied industrial design. At about this time, a book on knives caught her attention, and the fascination was unreal. Her final design project for college was, believe it or not, was a unique set of kitchen knives. At the age of 21 this talented lady nwas deigning and making knives, never realising where this love of knives would lead her. After college she was employed as a designer at a watch company for two years. Here she discovered there is a great difference between mass produced products and those that are skillfully handmade. She immediately knew she wanted to design and make knives, and that handmade knives would be precious to behold, whereas factory knives would not.
Harumi soon began designing beautiful folding knives as well as fixed blade knives, all of which were unique and one of a kind. There is just a little bit of dust on the top of the page block. Otherwise, no previous owner markings. No tears, folds or creases to pages. Binding is tight with no looseness to pages. He was teaching at Southern Illinois University when he was hired to reform the Arkansas prison system in 1968. He wrote about his experiences there (with co-author Joe Hyams) in Accomplices to the Crime: The Arkansas Prison Scandal, published in 1969 by Grove Press. EC25a 3 1/5 lbs

"Jim Morrison's wonderful book explains everything that can be said about the astrolabe and related instruments, including all the details of their construction and use. It is animated throughout by a cheerful faith that this preeminent tool of astronomers past can still play a role in 21st-century scientific education and practical life. If you have ever wondered "how an astrolabe works" (at any level of detail), this is the book that will tell you. --Dr. Bruce Stephenson, Curator, Webster Institute for the History of Astronomy

The astrolabe is one of the most significant scientific instruments of all times. What other instrument has been in continuous use for nearly 2000 years? It solved the critical problems of its day and continues to be admired for its ingenuity and usefulness. The Astrolabe focuses on the instrument itself. Morrison retraces the astrolabe s evolution over the ages and shows how their designs changed and their inscriptions evolved to serve its users. He even hints at its astrological uses where one s fate might rest with the rising or setting of a lucky star. Morrison fast forwards the astrolabe to modern times. He shows how, with dedication, you can make your own surprisingly accurate and beautiful astrolabe. Everything is included: modern star positions, formulas for making graphics and examples of recently crafted instruments. Anyone interested in the history of science or fields like astronomy, navigation or surveying will be astonished at the variety, beauty and utility of the astrolabe. Morrison's book is beautifully illustrated, and supported by a series of useful and instructive appendices. --Dr. Edward S.
