Approximitely 40 full page black and white illustrations. Cover edge wear, a bit heavy at the top corners of the spine. Decoration on the spine is somewhat faded. Light soiling to the cover, probably from handling. Previous owner bookplate on the first blank page. Paper opposite the book plate and most if not all of the full page illustrations show what appear to be a foxing or tanning, apparently a chemical reaction to the paper. These do not effect the flexibilty of the paper. Otherwise, no previous owner markings. No tears, folds or creases to pages. Binding is tight with no looseness to pages. "Thornton Waldo Burgess (January 17, 1874 – June 5, 1965) was an American conservationist and author of children's stories. Burgess loved the beauty of nature and its living creatures so much that he wrote about them for 50 years in books and his newspaper column, Bedtime Stories.
